SOFFA TIP / ASEAN FILM FESTIVAL

SOFFA_MAGAZINE_1

Although the whole summer issue SOFFA #15 was dedicated to film, enthusiasm for the world of cinema certainly have not left us and we have a tip for you what surely not to miss this week at the cinema - ASEAN FILM FESTIVAL

ASEAN Film Festival (Association of South East Asian Nations) will be held in Prague for the fifth time this year and will take place from September 13th to 17th. During the festival there will be screenings from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam starting at 18:00 sharp at Lucerna cinema.

Interestingly the entire festival is organized by embassies of the mentioned countries in the Czech Republic and they are the ambassadors themselves, who selected the films for visitors. And what were their criteria? The aim of the festival is primarily to bring the country and its culture closer to the Czech Republic, hence the European audiences. The ambassadors are  therefore selecting movies that should be, in their opinion, seen by Czech viewers.

The festival is not limited by genre or theme - the diversity is actually another criterion for selecting the films! Do you like horror movies? Come the first day of the festival to see the Thai horror movie named “Pee Mak”. The second festival evening will belong to “The Journey”, the Malaysian family film. Thursday's screening of the Indonesian film “Surat Dari Prague” (Letters from Prague) will certainly be interesting for the Czech viewers as the film was largely shot in Prague and tells the story of Indonesian Jaya, who came to Prague in the 60s to study and for political reasons he could never return to his country. Biographic movie “Kid Kulafu” about a Filipino boxing legend will be screened on Friday and the festival will end on Saturday with the Vietnamese drama “Yen's life”.

ASEAN FILM FESTIVAL's program thus has something for everyone. And the imaginary icing on the cake is that entry to all screenings is for free!
