Plove: swimsuits from a country with no sea
Behind the Czech brand Plove, which was founded in 2015, stands fashion designer Pavlína Miklasová. Out of a school project in the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague, under the leadership of Liběna Rochová, emerged her own original brand. It is gaining success in international exhibitions and getting nominated for prestigious awards, including the Fashion Designer Award at the Czech Grand Design awards 2017.
Plove swimsuits are characterized by clean lines, precise craftsmanship, and playful, vibrant colors: gold, yellow, rich pink, and cobalt or forget-me-not blue. For Pavlína Miklasová, both the ecological material and the shape are important. She uses not only conventional swimsuit material and scraps but also fabric made of 80% recycled polyamide fibers.
This year she’ll add a new "sunbather" two-piece, a black swimsuit, and sandals in cooperation with Barbara Veselá, a footwear designer and graduate at the London College of Fashion, to the permanent collection. The top of the sandals is made of swimsuit fabric, thanks to which they are light, adaptable, and extremely comfortable. They’re also made entirely in the Czech Republic.
Can a brand that's focused on purely swimsuit design originate in a landlocked country? The answer is "yes!" – and Plove is evidence of this.
You can buy Plove swimsuits and sandals at the store Koncept Story in Prague 7, or on their e-shop, www.plove.cz.
